Associated Press launders genocide as geopolitics
I am writing to condemn AP’s August 27 article, “Here’s a look at why it is so hard to end the war in Gaza,” which falsely frames a legally defined genocide as a political impasse and conceals state criminality behind neutral language.
This is not a war. According to the Genocide Convention, genocide includes acts committed “with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group.” UN agencies, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and hundreds of legal scholars have affirmed that Israel’s actions in Gaza meet this definition. Gaza is not a battlefield — it is a killing field where a nuclear-backed occupier is annihilating a besieged civilian population with full U.S. backing.
Israel has deliberately manufactured famine in Gaza. This is not speculation — it is documented fact. Israeli forces have blocked food, water, fuel, and humanitarian aid, bombed agricultural infrastructure, and attacked civilians in escape zones. Starvation is being used as a weapon of war, a grave violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention and a central element of genocidal policy under international law.
AP’s article uncritically repeats Israeli goals — including “voluntary emigration” and indefinite control over Gaza — without identifying these as forced population transfer and illegal occupation. By refusing to use accurate legal language, AP conceals crimes against humanity behind geopolitical analysis.
This coverage violates AP’s editorial standards and the public trust. I urge the Associated Press to retract this article and issue a correction naming the reality: this is not a war — it is a genocide, carried out by a nuclear-backed occupier and sanitized by outlets like yours.
