BBC covers up Gaza genocide and illegal occupation

The BBC article “Netanyahu says Israel intends to take complete control of Gaza, as warnings mount” by Middle East editor Raffi Berg (7 Aug 2025) breaches BBC Editorial Guidelines and Ofcom’s Code on Accuracy, Due Impartiality, and Harm and Offence.

Berg has been accused by BBC staff of “watering down” criticism of Israel and micromanaging coverage to favour Israeli narratives. He is also the author of Red Sea Spies, developed with a former Mossad commander. How can the public trust Gaza reporting edited by someone so closely tied to Israeli intelligence narratives?

The article omits that Gaza remains occupied territory and that a full takeover would be illegal under the Fourth Geneva Convention. UN human rights experts have declared Israel’s siege, displacement, famine, and systematic civilian killings to meet the legal definition of genocide.

It downplays Israel’s responsibility for over 1,000 Palestinians shot dead at Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid hubs — condemned by the UN’s refugee agency and Save the Children as “death traps” and by Médecins Sans Frontières as “orchestrated killing.” These killings are confirmed by UN bodies, Médecins Sans Frontières, eyewitnesses, and independent investigations as carried out by Israeli forces. The BBC’s framing through “Hamas-run health ministry” figures is not neutral reporting — it is a deliberate attempt to distort and delegitimise established fact, concealing war crimes and dehumanising victims.

BBC rules demand legal accuracy, rejection of false balance, and protection from dehumanisation. This coverage fails all three.
