Sky News deliberately casts doubt on aid-site massacre of at least 30 Palestinians by repeating Hamas-linked media

I am writing to raise serious concern over Sky News’ article, “At least 30 people killed in Israeli attack on aid distribution site in Gaza – Hamas-linked media” (1 June 2025), which repeatedly uses the phrase “Hamas-linked media” to cast doubt on reports that Israeli forces killed Palestinians queuing for food.

This framing discredits Palestinian witnesses and survivors—even as the Red Cross-run hospital confirms at least 21 dead and 175 wounded, and multiple eyewitnesses testify that Israeli forces opened fire. Yet Israeli military statements are presented without scrutiny or any qualifying language such as “IDF-linked,” creating a clear editorial double standard.

Phrases like “not yet clear” and “according to Hamas-linked media” introduce unjustified ambiguity, despite the area being under Israeli military control and consistent, corroborated accounts of what took place. This selectively sceptical framing distorts the reality of mass civilian killing and dehumanises Palestinians seeking food during a siege.

Sky News’ coverage violates OFCOM’s Broadcasting Code—specifically:

  • Section 5 (Due Accuracy and Impartiality) for applying unequal scrutiny to sources, and

  • Section 2 (Harm and Offence) for diminishing the reality of a massacre witnessed and documented by medical authorities and humanitarian organisations.

I urge Sky News to revise the article and remove the phrase “Hamas-linked media,” which functions as a clear attempt to undermine credible reports of a massacre. This framing casts suspicion on verified testimony while shielding official Israeli denials from scrutiny. Accurate, impartial reporting is not optional—it is a legal and moral obligation.
