TalkTV and Julia Hartley-Brewer broadcast famine denial and incite hatred during Gaza genocide

TalkTV’s 28 July broadcast promoted dangerous disinformation and hate speech. Julia Hartley-Brewer’s mocking dismissal of images of starving Gaza children as “propaganda” and her grotesque remarks about “chubby” mothers aired while Gaza suffers IPC Famine Level 5—the most extreme classification of mass starvation.

Her false claims directly contradict USAID findings and UN reports confirming that Israel’s blockade, not Hamas, is responsible for this man-made famine. This constitutes deliberate genocide denial and the dehumanisation of Palestinian victims—actions that fall under international legal definitions of incitement to atrocity and complicity in war crimes.

TalkTV’s editorial standards demand accuracy, fairness, and context for offensive content. This segment breached those standards, as well as Ofcom’s Broadcasting Code, specifically Sections 2 (Harm and Offence) and 5 (Due Impartiality). It platformed unverified propaganda while ridiculing victims of documented war crimes.

I call on Ofcom to:
– Open an immediate investigation into the broadcast;
– Require an on-air correction and full editorial accountability;
– Sanction TalkTV for broadcasting genocidal denial and hate speech.

This was not journalism—it was a platform for cruelty and complicity.
